What Happened
Our client was an elderly woman boarding or exiting a New York City subway train when the doors closed on her. The impact knocked her off balance and she fell to the platform. The fall caused a fractured hip that required surgery.
Hip fractures are among the most serious injuries an elderly person can sustain. The surgery itself carries significant risk at an advanced age, and the recovery can be long, painful, and life-altering.
A Claim Against the MTA
Suing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority requires compliance with specific procedural requirements that do not apply to ordinary civil claims – including strict notice requirements with short deadlines. A Difficult Complication
Our client passed away less than a year after the accident. Her death was not directly caused by the subway injury, but it changed the nature of the recovery available.
